Can We Use One More Website? Just Maybe.

There are 1.7 billion websites on the Internet. In case you have trouble getting your mind around big numbers, does it help to realize that this is 999,999,999 plus about 699,999,999 more? I didn’t think so. But it begs the question: Do we really need another one? Can’t you already find just about everything you can imagine? Do you really need to hear from one more person?

Forty-eight years ago,, I spoke at a conference at the University of Florida. The first night, I got to my hotel room only to discover that my roommate for several days was the venerable editor of a publication called the Firm Foundation. I was somewhat in awe to be sharing a room with this respected Christian leader, 35 years my senior. His name was Reuel Lemmons. During those days together the two of us discussed several pressing “brotherhood issues.”  At one point, as we went deep into the weeds on a topic, Reuel (or brother Lemmons, as I would have called him) looked at me and said in his deep Texas drawl, “Tom, I could ‘arr-gee’ either side of that issue.”

Do we need another website? I guess I could argue either side of that issue, but the very fact that here I am launching yet another piece of virtual real estate, lets you know I have decided that God might be able to use at least one more. After all, it will be written from a perspective that no one else in the world has. (All of us have one that is unique.) That being true, it just might connect with someone in way that is uniquely helpful. Just maybe.

Thirteen years ago (Could it really be that long?), I finished a book called In Search of a City. It was part memoir and part church history. Those of you who read it, learned a good bit about my spiritual journey in a movement I was blessed to be part of. Since then, I have written or co-written six other books, but if I were to rewrite them all today, they likely would all be different from the first editions, because we keep changing and hopefully growing. I am probably like other writers in that about the time copies of a new book arrive at my door, I am already wishing I had included a few more ideas about this or that. This space on the Internet gives me a place to give updates, and since many of you have generously told me my earlier writings have been helpful to you, maybe something you will find here will meet a need. Just maybe.

But this space also gives me a way of hearing more from you, and hearing from you will allow me to hear from your unique perspective that no one else in the world has. Only you. And I am confident that will be good for me, and not just “maybe.” So, let’s connect. I look forward to it.

Note: The email you see below is not yet working. We are trying to fix that. In the meantime you can reach me by using “Contact Tom” on the menu.
