Tom A. Jones has been a follower of Jesus for fifty-two years. Along with his wife Sheila, he has served churches in ministry roles in Missouri, Alabama, Massachusetts and Tennessee. He taught for nine years in the Department of Religion at Missouri State University in Springfield, and was editor of the Campus Journal, a national campus ministry publication for seven years.
In 1992 Tom began Discipleship Publications International (DPI) and served as editor-in-chief for nine years. DPI was a ministry of the Boston Church, where he also served as an elder for ten years. He and Sheila worked together with DPI until Tom went on disability due to multiple sclerosis. Sheila served as DPI’s managing editor until it ended operations in 2014. In twenty one years, DPI published more than 225 titles and sold more than two million books. Translations were made into more than 25 languages.
After eighteen years in Boston, the Joneses moved in 2005 to Tennessee in 2005, where Tom now serves as a teacher with the Greater Nashville Church. While in Nashville, he served on the AIM faculty for five years working with Douglas Jacoby and Joey Harris. He has authored or co-authored fifteen books, and edited nearly twenty anthologies.
The Joneses celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2019. They have three daughters, Amy Black, Bethany Jones Smith and Corrie Jones, and two “sons by marriage,” Ryan Black and Adam Smith. However, topping the list, in the “above all” category, they have a granddaughter, Skylar Presley Smith, who is 5 and is just (of course) the best!
